We find where the water is really getting in and fix it at the source: flashing, crown, cap or masonry.

Level 1 and Level 2 inspections, the national standard for chimneys and venting.
We work Minnesota roofs year-round and know what freeze–thaw does to brick.
Chimney Leak Repair & Waterproofing
A leak near the fireplace rarely starts where you see the stain. Water can enter through a cracked crown, a missing cap, failed flashing where the chimney meets the roof, or porous brick, then travel down inside the chimney before it shows up on your ceiling or wall.
We trace the leak to its source, repair it properly, and add waterproofing that lets the masonry breathe while keeping rain and snowmelt out. For wide chimneys we can add a cricket, a small peaked roof section that sends water around the chimney instead of letting it pool behind it.
You call or send the form, we confirm a day and arrival window, the crew does the work and photographs everything, and we walk you through what we found and what it costs. No surprises, and a written price before any repair.

The clay tiles inside this flue had cracked and pulled apart. Heat and gases can escape through the gaps into the framing of the house, so a liner like this needs to be replaced before the next fire.
Moss holds water against the brick, and every freeze pushes the faces apart. The cap had rusted through too. We recommend cleaning, sealing and a new cap.
Several bricks under the crown had broken off, leaving open holes for water. This is fixed with brick replacement and tuckpointing.
We took the damaged top courses down to the flue tiles, then rebuilt with new brick, mortar and flashing.
On this rebuild we removed loose brick down to solid masonry and protected the clay flue liner before laying new brick.
A finished chimney with a new crown poured across the top and new caps on both flues to keep out rain, animals and debris.

FAQ
Have a question that isn't here? Send it with the form below.
The most common causes are failed flashing, a cracked crown, a missing or damaged cap, and porous or cracked masonry. An inspection pinpoints which one it is.
A cricket is a small ridge built on the high side of the chimney that diverts water and snow around it. Building codes generally require one when a chimney is wider than 30 inches along the roof.
A breathable masonry water repellent keeps water out while letting moisture inside the brick escape. It works best after cracks and mortar joints are repaired.
