Tuckpointing, brick replacement and masonry restoration built to hold up to Minnesota freeze–thaw winters.

Level 1 and Level 2 inspections, the national standard for chimneys and venting.
We work Minnesota roofs year-round and know what freeze–thaw does to brick.
Chimney Masonry & Tuckpointing
Minnesota winters are hard on brick. Water soaks into mortar joints and brick faces, freezes, expands and pushes the masonry apart a little more every season. Left alone, small cracks turn into missing mortar, flaking brick and eventually loose courses at the top of the chimney.
Tuckpointing replaces the failing mortar so water stays out. Where brick has spalled or broken, we cut it out and replace it with a matching brick. Inside, we repair the smoke chamber and firebox so the whole system is sound.
You call or send the form, we confirm a day and arrival window, the crew does the work and photographs everything, and we walk you through what we found and what it costs. No surprises, and a written price before any repair.

Recent work
Real photos from our crew: problems we find on the roof, work in progress, and finished chimneys. Tap a photo to see it full size.
The clay tiles inside this flue had cracked and pulled apart. Heat and gases can escape through the gaps into the framing of the house, so a liner like this needs to be replaced before the next fire.
Moss holds water against the brick, and every freeze pushes the faces apart. The cap had rusted through too. We recommend cleaning, sealing and a new cap.
Several bricks under the crown had broken off, leaving open holes for water. This is fixed with brick replacement and tuckpointing.
We took the damaged top courses down to the flue tiles, then rebuilt with new brick, mortar and flashing.
On this rebuild we removed loose brick down to solid masonry and protected the clay flue liner before laying new brick.
A finished chimney with a new crown poured across the top and new caps on both flues to keep out rain, animals and debris.

FAQ
Have a question that isn't here? Send it with the form below.
Tuckpointing means grinding out deteriorated mortar joints and filling them with new mortar. It restores the seal that keeps water out of the masonry.
Mortar needs the right temperature to cure, so we schedule masonry work on days that are warm enough and protect the work when needed.
Spalling means water is getting into the brick. It weakens the chimney over time and loose pieces can fall, so it should be repaired before it spreads.
